Beyoncé Knowles
Beyoncé Knowles is a well-known American singer, songwriter, producer and actress in pop culture. She was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Mathew and Tina Knowles. At an early age she enrolled in various performing art schools and programs like ballet and jazz lessons and school talent shows as well. It was during one of her school talent shows she realized her interest in singing and her passion to be the best.
At the age of eight, Knowles auditioned for an all-girl group along with her childhood friend Kelly Rowland. This group at the time was originally named Girl’s Tyme but later changed to Destiny’s Child, which went on to be one of the world’s best-selling girl groups of all time. Along with Beyoncé and Kelly, the other original members of the group were LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.
The group was signed to Columbia Records in 1997 and released their self-titled album the following year. Their first single “No, No, No” became a number one hit all around the wold. In 1999 they released their multi-platinum second album The Writing’s on the Wall. This album made the group a viable act in the music industry and a force to be reckoned with due to the songs “Jumpin’ Jumpin’” and “Say My Name.” Even though this was a successful year for the group, it was also a hard one due to both Luckett and Roberson leaving the group. They were quickly replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin but Franklin eventually left the group after five months, leaving the group with three final members. The final group went on to release two more successful albums Survivor and Destiny Fulfilled before dismembering for good.
During a hiatus with the group, Beyoncé started her acting career, co-starring in films like Austin Powers in Goldmember and The Fighting Temptations. She first recorded with now husband Jay Z on his single “03 Bonnie & Clyde” and then recorded her first solo album Dangerously in Love. This album is certified four times platinum and released four number one songs. It also won five Grammy Awards which made Knowles a record-tying artist for that many awards in one night at the Grammys.
In 2006 Beyoncé starred in two more films, the comedy The Pink Panther and the Golden Globe winning Dreamgirl. She also released her second album B’Day which became her second consecutive number one album.
After her success with the two albums, she went on to marry her long term boyfriend Jay-Z on April 4, 2008. She also released and gained her third consecutive number-one album for I Am…Sasha Fierce. This is when the world was introduced to her alter ego personality Sasha Fierce through her videos like "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". This video also started the first major dance craze of both the new millennium and the Internet. Knowles starred in another film Cadillac Records portraying a blues singer Etta James. She performed Etta James classic hit “At Last” at The Neighborhood Inaugural Ball for the President and First Lady of the United States' first dance.
In 2011 she released her fourth solo album 4 which became her fourth consecutive number one album. After the launch she announced to the world at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards that she was pregnant during her performance of “Love on Top”. On January 7, 2012 she gave birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
